"The neighborhood is a heterogeneous urban unit in which public, semi-public, or privatized spaces exist without definite boundaries, with constant social interaction. The spatial pattern in a neighborhood derives from these social interactions, and they differ according to geographical and cultural characteristics of the place."
Considering the local patterns in Hatay, the streets appear narrow, with low-rise blocks close to each other in an irregular placement. The spaces between the blocks are either a courtyard of an independent house or the common area of several residential blocks. These spaces not only contribute to passive air conditioning but also daily life is shaped around them, enabling the social interactions in the neighborhood.
The project's 60-meter-wide, 750-meter-long green corridor, designed entirely for pedestrians and their daily activities, stretches in the West-East direction, bringing the neighborhood into "the focus.” This corridor also enables uninterrupted access from the residential areas it has infiltrated into to every other node in the community. Additionally, it aims to increase the possibility of interactive relations between individuals who live in different neighborhoods.
